If you are in need of outdoor cooling whether it is on a sports field, court, backyard, tent or patio there are three kind of units that can be used to keep yourself cool: mist fans, blower vaporizers and evaporative coolers. Each are different from each other, but they are all quite effective at cooling in an outdoor setting.
- Mist Fans – Mist nozzles are mounted on the front of a fan. The fan will range from 12” – 48,” may be oscillating or non-oscillating and run at various speeds which. In addition, the mist may be low pressure (40-80 psi), mid-pressure (160-250 psi) or high pressure (600-1200 psi) and is pushed through nozzles. These nozzles will vary in type and size of the opening that lets water come through. The higher the pressure and the smaller the opening of each nozzle the sooner the mist “flash evaporates” from the surface of the fan delivering pre-cooled air to the target.
- Blower Vaporizers – These units have a fan with a large shroud that uses jet technology and ranges from 17” – 27” in diameter. The fan can oscillate and throw the air for a short or long distance. The water vaporizer pulls water from a reservoir at adjustable levels and has a disc that rotates at 3600 rpm on the front of the blower. It breaks up the water into a fine mist as it is being blown to pre-cool the air and the “flash evaporation” takes place a few feet from the blower.
- Evaporative Coolers – These are also known as “swamp coolers.” They will vary from 20” – 86” in width. The blower or fan in the unit can be turned up or down in air speed and can oscillate on some units. The water which comes from a hose bib or from an existing reservoir within the system continually flows through a thick cooling pad and the air is drawn through it causing evaporation. As a result, the air is cooler than the outside air as it is blown out of the unit.
